Popular Songs that remind you of Camp

Hi All,

I will be working on a playlist to use during the Reunion this June.  This project got me to thinking about songs that were popular during my time at camp.  If you are like me, there are some songs that immediately take me back to a time and place at camp as soon as I hear them.  There are two in particular for me (but many others as well).  The first was a one hit wonder by a group called the Status Quo by the name ofPictures of Matchstick Men.  The other is the Woodstock version of Jefferson Airplanes'Volunteers.  "Okay people, you have heard the heavy groups.  Now it's time for morning maniac music.  Believe it.  It's a new dawn."  As I remember, that was reveille over the loudspeaker at Camp Miller in 1969 (or was it 68?).

What is the song or songs that bring you back?  Please post them here or send me an e-mail.  I will try to make all of them part of the playlist for the Reunion.

See you at the Shawnee Inn in June!

  • I remember a few early mornings being awaken to the Beatles "Here Comes The Sun".

  • Since I am such a big music freak,I always came to camp loaded with a milk crate full of LP's.(we remember what they are right?).Upon arrival I would always try bunk nearest the "Chief" who had the record player in the cabin & or tent. After impressing them with my selections & a little schmoozing,I often times had V.I.P.access to said record player.Playing in constant rotation would be the likes of early 70"s Elton John ,Seals & Crofts,Emerson Lake & Palmer,Wishbone Ash,Yes,Uriah Heep,Deep Purple,Black Sabbath,Led Zeppelin & The Beatles just name a few.All music that I still will listen to today.

  • Our HS reunion is 6/21 & 6/22.  I hope to join you Friday 6/20 and bring my Calif cousin but where?  Shawnee Inn, I know, but where?   a dinner? what?  Music: Most responders are of a different Era.

Missouri Waltz: ala Harry Truman; Tammy; Moments to Remember; Mockingbird Hill; Moon River; 15 Tons

  • How about See You In September!

  • I remember a kid with an amazing voice singing "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" at a talent show.

  •  Zager & Evans...great song!

  • "In the year 2525" - I can't remember who did it, but I remember driving to Stroudsburg listening to that on the radio.

  • Some of the Songs that remind Me of Camp Miller-Hagen center around the Dances when Bob Springman used His Stereo System during 1972-1975. Examples are Easy Livin By Uriah Heep, Dance to the Music(Woodstock Version), Nights in White Satin By the Moody Blues and Maybe it's You By the Carpenters.

  • Crystal Blue Persuasion, The Supremes, Three Dog Night, anything from the Pepper album, Temptations, The Turtles, The Associations, Canned Heat, and the list goes on! Great idea!

  • Almost anything by the Supremes.  Listened to WABC during rest period (in upper senior cabins, anyway).
