A little background for the last 35+ years?

Still putting up with the crazy Dutch exchange counselor I married. Three kids, many household moves, domestic and foreign. My dad, pictured on the 1935 Miller staff portrait posted on the website, turns 94 in May and still talks fondly of his days as a camper, counselor and camp doctor. My uncle, also a Miller boy, introduced him to my mom, Kitty Reinbold (Kit or Skipper), first head of the Hagan waterfront, 1937.

Favorite Camp memory?

One??? Army Navy Day, CIT shows, CHRISTMAS! Box hockey, jello in monkey bowls and purple bug juice. SINGING! Buddy tags. Sugar Daddy's and JuJuBees. Clyde putting his fist through the kitchen door when the kitchen boys wouldn't bring out the Hagan birthday cake, sliding on bare butts in the shower house, toothpaste on toilet seats and short-sheeting beds, listening to our very cool counselors sing In the Still of the Night, and We live for you... and years later singing the same songs. Trying to contain a fellow dept. head who had taken up the hobby of streaking around camp at midnight. 30-cent mugs of Pabst at Rick de Pue's! Coming back from a day off and finding my bed and bureau on a raft in the river. Drinking beer nights off at the Miller waterfront with new friends who remained in permanent denial that their camp was defunct. FTA ceremonies on Hagan soil! Singing Killy Killy... and feeling empowered because I could flash an extra five fingers. Worst memory: Last day of camp.

  • Happy Birthday Mary!  I'm bummed that we wont see you at there union, but understand based on your need to help your daughter.  Funny that she is in Denver.  That is where my son John lives.  If you get a chance, eat at the restaurant he works at.  The food is phenomenal.  The name of the restaurant is Tag and it is in Larimer Square.  Sue Holloway, who was at Camp with us and shares your birthday lives there as well.  Hope to catch up with you one of these days.

  • Hi Mary,

I had a cabin mate in 1960 named Jim Goldsmith who was a second generation Miller camper.  Is he your brother?
