Counselor Years? (19__ to 19__)
1971-73
A little background for the last 35+ years?
This is a big task (quite a few years), so I think I will do this in stages!
My last year at Camp Miller-Hagan was 1973. That was the summer after my senior year in high school. At the end of that summer I was told that I had performed well that year and would be asked back the next year. I was happy and went on to my Freshman year at Purdue where I joined a fraternity (TKE) and met my wife (of 32 years) Debbie Baur.
When I got home from school I contacted the Camps and was told that I was not actually not needed and would not be asked back as a counselor that summer. I was quite frankly devastated as the Camps were such a special place for me. I found out much later (in a phone conversation with Carol Wheeler during our mini NH reunion this year) that the Camp administration had made the decision to hire a number of counselors from somewhere in Europe that year, so quite a few people weren't asked back. I am sad to have missed those last few years, but as always. life goes on.
In the summer of 1974 I leased an ice cream truck and spent my summer as an entrepreneur playing the Good Humor man. Interesting, entertaining, and instructional but not Camp. Oh-well. With that, I kind of put the Camps behind me and forged forward with life.
Not being the most dedicated student, I managed to finish up at Purdue over the next 3 years, but only by sticking around for summer school. I Graduated in the summer of 1977 with a BS degree in Industrial Management with a minor in Marketing, and a technical option in biology and pharmacology. Deb and I were married in a northern Chicago suburb in August of that year and moved to Topeka Kansas of all places. She is a year older and had taken an entry level job with an Insurance company in Indianapolis and was then transferred to Topeka. I figured, better to look for one job than two, so I concentrated my job search to Kansas. Trust me, even Toto's not too thrilled to be living in Kansas!
Enough for now, I'll pick this up with a bit of career and family history next.
Favorite Camp memory?
The people. The location was just gravy.
How did you find the site / who referred you?
Dave Veil hooked me back up with the people. I decided that the site would be a good way to grow the group we were connected to.

You are thoughtful as ever. Neither rain nor snow nor pandemic keeps you from wishing others well! I hope you are weathering the pandemic safely - thank you for the well wishes.
Thanks for the birthday wishes. Whenever your messages about Camp Miller appear in my inbox it puts a smile on my face. Such fond memories of the summers of 1956 to 1958.
